How to use the present perfect in Spanish?

The present perfect is used to talk about 2 things:
1. Things we have done a specific number of times or things we have done for a certain period of time:

  • I have visited Colombia three times: Yo he visitado Colombia tres veces.

2. Things we have been doing during a period of time:

  • I have been studying the whole day: Yo he estado estudiando todo el día.

3. Things we have done a specific number of times or things we have done for a
certain period of time:

  • Diego ha viajado 4 veces a Europa. Diego has traveled to Europe 4 times.
  • Nosotros hemos comido langosta 5 veces. We have eaten lobster 5 times.
  • Yo nunca he ido a Europa. I have never been to Europe.
  • Tú has visitado a Paula 3 veces ésta semana. You have visited Paula 3 times this
    week.
  • Juliana ha ido 2 veces al gimnasio. Juliana has gone to the gym twice.
  • Ellos han estado juntos por muchos años. They have been together for several
    years.
  • Nosotros hemos trabajo toda la mañana. We have worked the whole morning.
  • ¿Ustedes han visitado a mi abuela éste mes? Have you visited my grandma this
    month?

4. Things we have been doing during a period of time:

This is another way to talk about things that we have been doing during a certain period of time. So we have 2 options. We can say something like:

  • He estudiado toda la tarde: I have studied the whole afternoon.
  • He estado estudiando toda la tarde: I’ve been studying all afternoon
